Having been one of the adjudicators for the recent Dorset Young Farmers drama competition, I was very impressed by the talent shown by so many of the performers. I thought you might like to know that Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society (YAOS), to which I belong, is looking to recruit new young members to take part in its production of Sandy Wilson’s 1920s musical “The Boy Friend” at the Octagon Theatre, Yeovil in October 2010. Let me stress that you do not need to be an experienced singer or actor – enthusiasm and a willingness to learn from our friendly production director, Sheila Driver are all that is needed. YAOS is one of the foremost live musical production companies in the region and has won over 20 national awards in the last 25 years – more than any other in the West Country. It is a very friendly group of people and I have thoroughly enjoyed being a member for the past five years. For more information, please visit the society’s web site at www.yaos.org.uk. If you would like to see us at work, our current production of the American musical “Mame” runs at the Octagon Theatre until Saturday 27th March and seats are available for all the remaining performances. We are holding a social evening at the society’s headquarters Edwards House, 14 Buckland Road, Yeovil, Somerset, BA21 5EA at 7.30 pm on Monday, 12 April to learn more about “The Boy Friend” and also to welcome prospective new members. Please feel free to turn up on the night – you are assured of a warm welcome. Directions to Edwards House are on the web site. I hope that this will be of interest to Dorset Young Farmers and anyone who is interested is encouraged to give me a ring on 01308 898648 (or e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) if they’d like any more information. Best wishes Ernie Thomas |
